DYNAMIC CHARTS

Dynamic Charts is the name given to the fully interactive analysis system that allows subscribers to investigate critical chemical industry data.  This data covers all the areas analysed by Nexant in its ChemSystems offering and includes:

  • Plant capacity and ownership details
  • Production economics
  • Profitability and margin analysis
  • Supply demand analysis
  • Production and consumption breakdown
  • Price analysis

All of these areas (aside the Production economics) can be viewed for both historic (actual) and forecast (scenario specific) periods.

Access to the information and analysis presented in Dynamic Charts requires a subscription to the ChemSystems PPE program.

NAVIGATION

TOP NAVIGATION

The Top Navigation allows subscribers to quickly review analysis for a given product and region.  The drop downs should be filled in the order in which they present options to the user (product, then analysis then finally region).  The drop downs initially include guidelines on the information required - the user can choose to answer these options in either of the following two ways:

  • By scrolling down to find the required item
  • By using type ahead to find the item by starting to enter it directly into the drop down (this second method requires the user to first delete the guidelines contained in the drop down)

Pressing the "go" button to the right of the three option boxes will immediately open a chart for the user for a default time period provided the product and analysis is available in the users subscription.  A subscribing user can then use the Left Navigation and Time Line to further refine the results set.  A non subscriber meanwhile will be redirected to a default set of results for demonstration.

LEFT NAVIGATION

The Left Navigation provides the user with complete control over navigation. Each drop down initially populates with a suitable default value.  Any further options are recompiled after a user selection in related drop downs to ensure that only those options that can return useful results are offered to the user (Nexant only presents ChemSystems analysis of profitability and prices in the main price setting regions, whereas capacity information is available for all countries)

The number of drop downs will also change dependent on the analysis type selected, with profitability and prices including options on currency e.t.c in addition to those available in other analysis areas.  In each instance these drop downs will populate with suitable defaults and then allow the user to select an alternative option.

The user may be able to select options that lie outside their companies subscription agreement with Nexant.  The website will not return the results in this instance.

TIME LINE

The Time Line is located immediately below the Chart/Table area.  Dynamic Charts includes options to select default time ranges (2 year, 5 year e.t.c.) as well as using an interactive Time Line to focus the results set on the time period of interest to the user.  The Time Line needs to be clicked once to activate it, thereafter it can be used in two separate modes:

  • As a time range allowing the user to separately modify start and end years
  • As a time pointer to allow the user to specify a particular year (applicable to Company Ownership, Production Economics and QonQ Profitability)

In each instance the year can be changed by clicking and holding the relevant red triangle on the Time Line, and then dragging and releasing it at the chosen year.

DROP DOWNS WITHIN THE GRAPHIC/TABLE

A number of charts/tables allow further analysis of the results by adjusting a drop down within the chart/table area (Capacity Ownership, Plant Costs, Production and Consumption Reports).  Screens with just one drop down will automatically recalculate results immediately after the user has changed the selection.  Those with more than one box however will only recalculate when the associated "go" button is pressed to allow the user to complete any changes before the results are displayed.

TEXT ANALYSIS

Dynamic Charts includes a series of text boxes that support the analysis chosen by the user.  The text is grouped into four separate areas:

  • Commentary (available to subscribers only) - contains Nexant's observations on the particular analysis based on content from the ChemSystems PPE written reports.  These text extracts are chosen to offer explanation on the key drivers that are causing changes in the analysis being reviewed.
  • Methodology - contains a brief description of the analysis being reviewed, a summary on how Nexant collates any data included in the preparation of the analysis and finally an illustration on how the analysis interacts with other areas of Nexant's ChemSystems forecasting methodology.
  • Assumptions - contains details on the high level assumptions used to develop the analysis, of particular relevance to any forecast period.
  • Glossary - contains a selection from our glossary (available from the top navigation on the site) that is pertinent to the analysis selected by the user.
