The global oil, gas and chemical industry is amazing and touches the lives of everyone on the planet.  From the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas through the refining of oils to fuels and the synthesis of petrochemicals to provide the fibres, plastics and life materials that make modern life, the industry is constantly developing and innovating.

The oil and gas industry develops new exploration and production techniques to get oil and gas from more remote locations around the planet and to extract a greater proportion of the hydrocarbons contained in known fields.

The oil refining industry develops improved fuels to reduce pollution and provide greater efficiency.  The industry is currently developing “biofuels” from renewable sources to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

The chemical industry is developing more sophisticated materials to improve our quality of life, our health and our environment.

The industry has to cope with a fast changing global economy that can drive crude oil prices from less than $20 per barrel up to $80 per barrel within four years.  It has to cope with changing government regulations and trade relationships.   It has to manage multi-billion dollar assets on behalf of its owners and shareholders.   A truly colossal task!
